Clay at the Cove

Clay Workshops & Handbuilding at Creative Cove

Creative Cove offers a growing selection of clay workshops and handbuilding experiences designed for all skill levels.

Whether you’re trying clay for the first time or returning to explore new techniques, our clay programs focus on creativity, connection, and hands-on learning in a welcoming studio environment.

Pottery Clay Work

What Is Open Clay Handbuilding?

Open clay handbuilding is a flexible, self-guided studio experience where you can work with clay at your own pace.

Unlike a structured class, there’s no set project or step-by-step instruction. Instead, you’ll have access to clay, tools, and studio space to explore your own ideas, practice techniques, or continue working on pieces over time.

This style of clay work focuses on handbuilding techniques such as pinch pots, slab building, and sculpting no pottery wheel required.

It’s perfect for:

  • Beginners who want to experiment and play

  • Returning guests looking to build on their skills

  • Anyone who enjoys a relaxed, creative environment

Our team is always nearby for guidance and support if needed, but the experience is designed to give you creative freedom.

Courtenay Studio

Our Courtenay studio is expanding to include open clay handbuilding and workshops.

We are currently working toward introducing dedicated clay days, including plans for open clay handbuilding sessions. These will offer a flexible, drop-in style experience similar to our Morinville studio.

Full clay programming, including workshops and events, will be launching soon. Be sure to check our events calendar and follow along on social media for updates.

What To Expect

Our clay workshops and open studio experiences are designed to be approachable, creative, and fun, with guidance available along the way.

Depending on the experience, you may:

  • Learn handbuilding techniques such as pinch pots, slab work, or sculpting

  • Create functional or decorative ceramic pieces

  • Return for a second visit to glaze your finished work

  • Explore new ideas in a relaxed and supportive setting

No experience is needed,  just come ready to get your hands a little messy.

A Creative Experience for Everyone

Clay at Creative Cove is about more than just making pottery.

It’s about:

  • Slowing down and being present

  • Trying something new

  • Connecting with others

  • Creating something uniquely your own
