What Is Open Clay Handbuilding?

Open clay handbuilding is a flexible, self-guided studio experience where you can work with clay at your own pace.

Unlike a structured class, there’s no set project or step-by-step instruction. Instead, you’ll have access to clay, tools, and studio space to explore your own ideas, practice techniques, or continue working on pieces over time.

This style of clay work focuses on handbuilding techniques such as pinch pots, slab building, and sculpting no pottery wheel required.

It’s perfect for:

  • Beginners who want to experiment and play

  • Returning guests looking to build on their skills

  • Anyone who enjoys a relaxed, creative environment

Our team is always nearby for guidance and support if needed, but the experience is designed to give you creative freedom.

Clay Membership

Is Coming to Creative Cove!

Beginning September 2026, Creative Cove is launching a pilot Clay Membership program with self-guided studio time every Tuesday from 12:00–9:00 p.m.

Membership is perfect for makers who have some clay experience and want more time, space, and flexibility to work on their own hand-building projects all within a welcoming creative community.

Spaces will be limited during our pilot program.

What To Expect

Our clay workshops and open studio experiences are designed to be approachable, creative, and fun, with guidance available along the way.

Depending on the experience, you may:

  • Learn handbuilding techniques such as pinch pots, slab work, or sculpting

  • Create functional or decorative ceramic pieces

  • Return for a second visit to glaze your finished work

  • Explore new ideas in a relaxed and supportive setting

No experience is needed,  just come ready to get your hands a little messy.
